Everything you need to research, track, and analyze your investments in the Nepal stock market.
NEPSE (Nepal Stock Exchange) is open Monday through Friday. Regular trading runs from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Nepal Standard Time (NST, UTC+5:45). A pre-open session runs from 10:45 AM to 11:00 AM where orders can be entered but not matched. The market is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays declared by the Government of Nepal.
T+2 settlement means that a NEPSE stock trade settles 2 business days after the trade date (T). For example, if you buy shares on Monday, the shares are credited to your DEMAT account and payment is debited on Wednesday. Settlement is handled by CDSC (CDS and Clearing Ltd). This means you cannot sell newly purchased shares until they are settled in your account.
NEPSE broker commissions are slab-based on the transaction amount: up to NPR 50,000 — 0.40%; NPR 50,001 to 500,000 — 0.37%; NPR 500,001 to 2,000,000 — 0.34%; NPR 2,000,001 to 10,000,000 — 0.30%; above NPR 10,000,000 — 0.27%. Commission applies to both buy and sell transactions. Lagani Pro automatically applies the correct slab when calculating trade costs.
SEBON (Securities Board of Nepal) charges a regulatory fee of 0.015% on every transaction (both buy and sell) on NEPSE. This fee is collected by brokers on SEBON's behalf and is separate from broker commission. It is calculated on the total transaction value.
DP (Depository Participant) charge is a flat NPR 25 fee per transaction charged by your depository participant for recording share ownership transfers in the CDSC system. It applies to both buy and sell transactions separately.
Nepal CGT on NEPSE share sales: 5% for shares held less than 365 days (short-term), and 3.75% for shares held 365 days or more (long-term). CGT is calculated on the net capital gain (sale price minus purchase price, excluding transaction costs). The tax is withheld by your broker at the time of sale. Lagani Pro calculates your estimated CGT liability automatically based on purchase date and quantity.
For a typical equity trade on NEPSE, total charges include: broker commission (0.27%–0.40% depending on amount, on both buy and sell), SEBON fee (0.015% on both sides), and DP charge (NPR 25 per transaction). On a sell trade, CGT (3.75% or 5% of gain) also applies. Lagani Pro's brokerage calculator shows the exact breakdown before you trade.
TMS (Trading Management System) is the online trading platform used by licensed NEPSE brokers in Nepal. Each broker provides their own TMS login to clients. You place buy and sell orders through TMS during trading hours. You need both a DEMAT account (to hold shares) and a TMS account (to trade) to participate in NEPSE.
CDSC (CDS and Clearing Ltd) is the central depository and clearing house for Nepal stock market. It maintains the DEMAT (dematerialised) records of all NEPSE share ownership. When you buy or sell shares on NEPSE, CDSC processes the settlement — transferring shares and funds between buyer and seller on a T+2 basis.
Net profit on a NEPSE stock sale = (Sale Price × Quantity) − (Purchase Price × Quantity) − Broker Commission (buy + sell) − SEBON Fee (buy + sell) − DP Charges (buy + sell) − CGT (3.75% or 5% of gross gain). Lagani Pro's portfolio tracker performs this calculation automatically for every holding, accounting for slab-based commission and your actual holding period.
