NEPSE (Nepal Stock Exchange) trading hours are Monday through Friday, 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM Nepal Standard Time (UTC+5:45). A pre-open session runs from 10:45 AM to 11:00 AM for order entry. The market is closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays declared by the Government of Nepal.
Over 200 companies are listed on the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) across sectors including commercial banks, development banks, finance companies, hydropower companies, insurance companies, manufacturing, hotels, and trading companies.
The main sectors on NEPSE are: Commercial Banks, Development Banks, Finance Companies, Hydropower & Energy, Insurance, Microfinance, Manufacturing & Processing, Hotels & Tourism, Trading, and Others. NEPSE publishes a sub-index for each sector.
NEPSE sub-indices track the performance of individual sectors separately from the overall NEPSE index. For example, the Banking sub-index tracks only bank stocks, while the Hydropower sub-index tracks only energy companies. Sub-indices help investors understand which sectors are driving market movement.
NEPSE turnover is the total value (in Nepali Rupees) of all shares bought and sold during a trading session. High turnover indicates strong market activity and liquidity. Lagani Pro displays daily turnover alongside top turnover stocks.
NEPSE has two types of circuit breakers under current regulations: (1) Individual stock price limit — a stock's price can move a maximum of ±15% from the previous closing price in a single trading session. During the pre-open session, the price movement threshold is ±5%. (2) Market-wide index circuit breakers — if the NEPSE index moves 5% within the first 2 hours of trading, the entire market is suspended for 15 minutes; if the index moves 8% at any point during the day, trading is closed for the remainder of that session. These rules are set by SEBON to prevent extreme intraday volatility.
The NEPSE floorsheet is a record of every trade executed on the stock exchange, showing the buyer broker, seller broker, stock symbol, quantity, rate, and transaction time. It provides transparency into who is buying and selling each stock.
A DEMAT (Dematerialised) account in Nepal is an electronic account that holds your shares digitally, replacing physical share certificates. It is maintained by CDSC (CDS and Clearing Ltd) and is required to buy, sell, or hold NEPSE-listed shares.
