Upendra Yadav's Three Suggestions for Constitution Rewriting
Upendra Yadav, Chairman of the Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal, has presented three suggestions to the government for the review, amendment, and rewriting of the constitution as needed. He emphasized preserving the positive achievements of the constitution while making federalism, equality, inclusivity, social justice, and democratic republic more effective.
Kathmandu. Upendra Yadav, Chairman of the Janata Samajwadi Party, Nepal, has presented three suggestions to the government for the review, amendment, and rewriting of the constitution as necessary.
In his first suggestion, Yadav emphasized preserving the positive achievements of the constitution while making federalism, equality, inclusivity, social justice, and democratic republic more effective. He suggested advancing the debate on constitutional amendment in a comprehensive and conclusive manner through broad national dialogue, political consensus, and public participation.
In his second suggestion, he stated that state restructuring is necessary to address structural weaknesses in the constitution, disputes over rights and jurisdictions, problems with provincial structures, demarcation, and complexities in the electoral and judicial systems. He said that while respecting national and ethnic identities, it is essential to ensure ownership for Madhesi, indigenous nationalities, Dalits, Tharu, Muslims, backward classes, women, and other marginalized communities.
In his third suggestion, Yadav said that the issue of constitutional amendment and rewriting should be resolved through political dialogue and consensus. He emphasized strengthening federalism, proportional inclusion, good governance, the electoral system, social security, and justice, while correcting weaknesses in the distribution of rights and resources among the federal, provincial, and local levels.
