Two-way traffic resumes at Krishnabhir from today
The blocked road section at Krishnabhir along the Prithvi Highway has opened for two-way traffic starting today. Traffic resumed after a new 250-meter road was constructed as an alternative to the flood-damaged retaining wall.
Kathmandu. Two-way traffic has resumed starting today on the blocked road section at Krishnabhir along the Prithvi Highway.
Traffic had been operating on a trial basis since August 28 (Bhadra 28). With the completion of necessary infrastructure construction, two-way traffic has now been fully operational from today.
Floods on the morning of August 10 (Bhadra 10) had damaged the retaining wall at Krishnabhir. After another flood on August 14 (Bhadra 14) completely destroyed the wall, traffic on that road section was completely halted.
To reopen the blocked road, the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure Development, with support from technicians of the Department of Roads and the Nepal Geotechnical Society, conducted a study and constructed a new 250-meter road by cutting through the hill at Krishnabhir.
Following the recommendation, from August 19 (Bhadra 19), trees were cleared and a new road was constructed by excavating the hill to a height of 35 meters and 20 meters inward. After 50 people, including technicians, worked continuously for 12 to 16 hours daily, on the tenth day of work, on August 28 (Bhadra 28), some vehicles including gas bullets were operated on a trial basis.
