Kathmandu — The Nepal Securities Board has directed the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) to improve its trading system. In a statement issued on Monday, the Board instructed NEPSE to study the cause of the situation that necessitated halting securities trading and to submit a report with reforms.
The Board also directed an investigation into what happened that forced a complete trading halt. The statement said: "...the Board has directed NEPSE to conduct the necessary study and investigation into the adverse situation that arose, requiring the suspension of securities trading, and to submit a report with reforms to prevent such incidents from recurring."
The Board expressed serious concern over the situation where trading had to be suspended due to a technical problem at the data center hosting the servers of 72 out of 92 broker companies.
This incident has raised questions about NEPSE's infrastructure and technical capacity. The Board's directive has created pressure to strengthen the system to prevent such problems in the future.
