SEBON to Advance NEPSE Structural Reforms, Implementation of Rameshwar Khanal-led Committee Report
The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) is set to advance structural reforms and technical strengthening of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE). As per the Ministry of Finance's directive, SEBON is preparing to implement the report submitted by the Rameshwar Khanal-led committee and will begin discussions with NEPSE's board of directors. Additionally, the implementation of a 21-point directive for CDSC reforms and the development of infrastructure for new financial instruments are also underway.
Kathmandu. The Securities Board of Nepal (SEBON) has decided to advance the process of structural reforms and technical strengthening of the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE). According to the directive of the Ministry of Finance, preparations have begun to implement the report submitted by the committee led by Rameshwar Khanal, informed SEBON Chairman Dr. Gopal Prasad Bhatta.
Speaking at the Finance Committee of the Federal Parliament on Wednesday, Chairman Bhatta stated that improvements in NEPSE's cyber security, IT system, good governance, and institutional capacity have been prioritized. According to him, the restructuring process will be advanced through discussions with NEPSE's board of directors starting next week.
Similarly, the process of implementing the 21-point directive received from the Ministry of Finance for the reform of CDS and Clearing Limited (CDSC) has also begun. Chairman Bhatta mentioned that there is a plan to develop CDSC as a 'Central Counterparty' in the future.
The board has also announced preparations for the necessary infrastructure development to introduce new instruments such as intraday trading, short selling, and derivatives in the Nepali capital market. These new arrangements are expected to bring about significant changes in the ecosystem of the Nepali capital market.
