Rasuwa's Bhotekoshi Flood: 1,436 Bodies Found, 4,655 Missing
As of 11 AM Sunday, 1,436 bodies have been recovered from the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa. 4,655 people are missing, and 1,372 have been placed in holding centers. A total of 3,283 DNA samples have been collected for identification.
Kathmandu — As of 11 AM Sunday, 1,436 bodies have been recovered from the devastating flood in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa. According to police, among the recovered bodies, the highest number is in Chitwan with 365, followed by Nawalparasi East with 232, Nawalparasi West with 222, Rasuwa with 223, Nuwakot with 203, Dhading with 72, Gorkha with 79, Tanahun with 38, and 2 deaths during treatment in Kathmandu.
Police have stated that the necessary process, including DNA sample collection, has been initiated for the identification of the bodies. So far, 1,292 bodies have been managed. For identification, a total of 3,283 DNA samples have been collected—1,286 from the deceased and 1,997 from relatives.
The details of 1,362 unidentified bodies have been made public on the Nepal Police website. So far, 7,975 police personnel have been deployed for rescue, search, relief distribution, and body management.
The search for 4,655 people missing after the flood is ongoing. Currently, 1,372 people have been kept in holding centers in various districts. Police have stated that rescue and search operations are continuing in the affected areas, and the search for the missing and identification of bodies are being carried out simultaneously.
