The government has proposed providing subsidized loans to government employees who wish to purchase vehicles. This arrangement is included in the draft 'Government Employee Vehicle Management Directive, 2083'.
The proposal is said to have been put forward as an alternative to the traditional system of providing vehicles to government employees.
If the proposal is passed and implemented, government employees who wish to buy their own vehicles will be provided subsidized loans ranging from NPR 2 million to NPR 60 million, depending on their position and level.
The draft stipulates that the Chief Secretary, Secretary, and officials of the 12th level will be eligible for subsidized loans up to NPR 60 million to purchase four-wheelers, while Joint Secretaries or employees of the 11th level will receive up to NPR 50 million, and Under Secretaries or employees of the ninth and 10th levels will receive up to NPR 40 million.
Similarly, the draft proposes loans of up to NPR 4 million for Section Officers or employees from the sixth to eighth levels to purchase two-wheelers, and up to NPR 2 million for non-gazetted and assistant-level employees.
The proposal will be implemented only after it is passed by the Council of Ministers and enforced.
