Power supply fully disrupted in Manang, Mustang, Myagdi, and Baglung
Continuous heavy rainfall, storms, floods, and landslides have damaged power transmission and distribution infrastructure, completely halting electricity supply in Manang, Mustang, Myagdi, and Baglung. Damage to towers on the Kali Gandaki Corridor 220 kV transmission line has affected approximately 358 MW of electricity generation. The Nepal Electricity Authority has deployed repair teams and is working to restore service.
Kathmandu. Electricity supply has been completely disrupted in Manang, Mustang, Myagdi, and Baglung after continuous heavy rainfall, storms, floods, and landslides damaged power transmission and distribution infrastructure. The Nepal Electricity Authority has stated that it is working to restore electricity service in the affected districts.
Under the Kali Gandaki Corridor 220 kV transmission line, Tower No. 21 and 22 have been damaged in the section from Dana in Myagdi to Kushma in Parbat. Problems have also arisen in the Kushma–Naya Butwal section of the transmission line. As a result, approximately 358 MW of electricity generation connected to the corridor transmission line has been affected.
Due to flood risks, the following hydropower stations have been shut down to protect their generation:
- Kali Gandaki
- Upper Madi
- Super Madi
- Namarjun Madi
- Seti River
- Upper Dordi
- Upper Marsyangdi
- Middle Marsyangdi
- Marsyangdi
- Modi
The Authority has reported that 220 kV, 132 kV, 33 kV, and 11 kV transmission and distribution structures have also been damaged by floods and landslides.
Technical and repair teams have been deployed to collect damage details in the affected areas, operate electricity supply through alternative arrangements, and immediately repair damaged structures. Arrangements have been made to resume electricity supply through alternative feeders and available transmission and distribution structures where possible.
Due to heavy rainfall, floods, landslides, and road blockages, technical teams are facing difficulties reaching some areas. The Authority has stated that as soon as roads and access routes open, additional teams and necessary equipment will be deployed to accelerate repair and restoration of electricity supply.
