Nepal's EV Imports Nearly Triple in First Two Months of FY 2026/27
Nepal imported 2,834 electric vehicles worth Rs 6.70 billion in the first two months of FY 2026/27, with monthly volumes nearly tripling from 689 to 2,145 units. China remained the dominant supplier, shipping 1,256 EVs worth Rs 3.05 billion in the second month alone, while India and Thailand also contributed significant volumes.
KATHMANDU, Oct 4 — Nepal imported 2,834 units of electric vehicles (EVs) worth Rs 6.70 billion in the first two months of the current Fiscal Year (FY), according to data from the Department of Customs (DoC).
The import of electric cars, jeeps, and vans surged almost three-fold between mid-August and mid-September compared to the previous month. Monthly EV imports jumped from 689 units to 2,145 units over the period, with the total value of EVs imported last month alone reaching Rs 5.09 billion.
The majority of these vehicles entered Nepal via the Korala border point in Mustang.
China was the largest supplier of electric vehicles in the second month of FY 2026/27, with Nepal purchasing 1,256 EVs worth Rs 3.05 billion from its northern neighbor. Chinese EV brands popular in the Nepali market include:

- Chery
- Omoda
- Zeekr
- Dongfeng
- Leapmotor
- MG
- Great Wall Motors
- Deepal
In the same review month, 540 units of EVs were imported from India, including brands such as Tata, Mahindra, Kia, MG, and Suzuki. Additionally, 348 EVs were imported from Thailand and one from the United States.
