Nepal's Energy Ministry Forms High-Level Committee to Tackle Sector Challenges
The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) has established a high-level committee with private sector representation to address policy, regulatory, and implementation hurdles in Nepal's energy sector. The panel, coordinated by Joint Secretary Sunil Paudel, includes officials from key government agencies and representatives from the Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN).
KATHMANDU, Oct 6 – The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation (MoEWRI) has formed a high-level committee that includes private sector representatives to tackle challenges in energy sector development, policy facilitation, and project implementation.
The committee will be coordinated by Sunil Paudel, joint secretary at the MoEWRI. Its members include:
- Yagya Prasad Bhattarai, joint secretary of the Law and Judgment Implementation Division
- The deputy director general of the Department of Electricity Development
- Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, executive director of the Nepal Electricity Authority
Representing the private sector are Narendra Ballabh Pant, Abhigya Malla, and Anup Acharya from the Independent Power Producers' Association, Nepal (IPPAN), along with Engineer Shirish Pandey.
Shalikram Bhandari, senior divisional engineer at the MoEWRI's Renewable Energy and Carbon Trade Promotion Section, will serve as the committee's member-secretary.
The committee is expected to help identify and address policy, regulatory, and implementation-related obstacles affecting energy sector development and investment.
