Nepal's Electricity Export Earnings Rise Despite Flood Damage, Says Minister Shrestha
Nepal exported over 565.6 million units of electricity in Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September), earning more than Rs 5.09 billion despite flood damage that knocked out nearly 10 percent of generation capacity. Earnings rose by over Rs 382.7 million compared to the same period last fiscal year.
KATHMANDU, Sept 20 — Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said Nepal's electricity trade improved in Bhadra (mid-August to mid-September) compared with the same month last year, calling it a significant achievement.
"Even under difficult circumstances, with the Bhotekoshi flood knocking nearly 10 percent of the country's generation capacity off the grid, Nepal exported more than 565.6 million units of electricity in Bhadra and earned over Rs 5.09 billion," he said.
According to Shrestha, electricity export earnings in Bhadra last fiscal year stood at Rs 4.71 billion. This year's earnings were more than Rs 382.7 million higher.
The minister credited the result to continuous system coordination by the Load Dispatch Centre at Syuchatar, the senior management of the Nepal Electricity Authority, and engineers, technicians and other staff working across the country.
