Nepali Congress 15th General Convention: Ward conventions concluding today, continuing in 31 districts tomorrow
The ward conventions under the Nepali Congress's 15th General Convention are concluding across the country today. Yesterday, conventions were completed in 3,396 wards of 43 districts, and they will continue in 31 districts tomorrow. The ward conventions will elect ward committees and regional representatives.
Kathmandu — The ward conventions under the Nepali Congress's 15th General Convention are concluding across the country today. The party has stated that the conventions, which began on Saturday, will be completed at the ward level today.
According to the Nepali Congress, conventions and elections were completed in 3,396 wards of 43 districts on Saturday. As per the decision of the Nepali Congress Central Committee, the ward convention process began as part of the 15th Central General Convention to be held from Ashwin 16 to 19. The party has stated that ward committees and regional representatives will be elected through the ward conventions.
According to the Nepali Congress, conventions were completed in Taplejung, Panchthar, Sankhuwasabha, Dhankuta, Solukhumbu, Udayapur, Jhapa, Morang, Mahottari, Ramechhap, Kavrepalanchok, Sindhupalchok, Chitwan, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kathmandu, Gorkha, Kaski, Manang, Parbat, Syangja, Baglung, Nawalpur, Palpa, Arghakhanchi, Gulmi, Rukum East, Rolpa, Pyuthan, Rukum West, Dolpa, Jumla, Mugu, Humla, Jajarkot, Dailekh, Surkhet, Doti, Achham, Darchula, Baitadi, Kanchanpur, and Kailali.
According to the schedule published by the Central Election Committee, the Nepali Congress has stated that ward conventions will continue on Sunday in 31 districts excluding Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading.
The ward convention has a schedule to form ward committees and elect regional representatives for the selection of general convention representatives. The regional representatives will elect general convention representatives through the constituency conventions. The general convention representatives will elect the central leadership of the Nepali Congress through the central general convention.
The Nepali Congress will hold conventions in 6,743 wards nationwide, including 3,215 in 460 rural municipalities, 3,120 in 276 municipalities, 234 in 11 sub-metropolitan cities, and 174 in 6 metropolitan cities. According to the party statute, 85,434 people will be elected to ward committees. Of these, 33,715 officials and 51,719 members will be elected, according to the Nepali Congress Central Election Committee.
In rural municipality wards, 38,580 people will be elected with five officials and seven members per ward, totaling 12 per ward. In the 3,120 wards of municipalities, 40,560 will be elected with five officials and eight members per ward, totaling 13 per ward. Similarly, in 234 sub-metropolitan city wards, 3,510 people will be elected with five officials and 10 members, and in 174 metropolitan city wards, 2,784 people will be elected with five officials and 11 members.
The number of regional representatives elected from the ward conventions will range from 23 to 75 per ward, based on the party's active membership count, according to the Nepali Congress.
The Nepali Congress Election Committee has stated that except for Rasuwa and Nuwakot's Constituency No. 1, which were affected by the Bhote Koshi flood, ward conventions will conclude today and tomorrow in other areas. In flood-affected areas, it has been said that conventions will be held based on local conditions and in coordination with party workers.
According to the Nepali Congress convention schedule, after the completion of ward and municipal conventions, district conventions will be held on Ashwin 7 and provincial conventions on Ashwin 10. Subsequently, the 15th General Convention is scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from Ashwin 16–19.
