Nepal Restores E-GP System After Security Upgrades
The Nepali government has resumed its electronic government procurement (e-GP) system after addressing security risks. Bidders can now submit proposals online or in hard copy, but bid opening and evaluation must be conducted electronically.
KATHMANDU, Nov 4 – The government has resumed the electronic government procurement (e-GP) system after implementing improvements to address security risks.
The Public Procurement Monitoring Office, under the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, brought the system back into operation on Tuesday.
The Software Development and Operation Centre under the Prime Minister's Office had suspended the e-GP system on August 27, citing security risks.
Under existing legal provisions, all public agencies are required to publish national and international tenders for construction works and the procurement of goods through the system.
Under the revised arrangement, bidders and suppliers can submit their proposals either online or in hard copy. However, the opening and evaluation of bids must be carried out exclusively through the electronic system.
