The Department of Roads has accelerated repairs on highways damaged by floods and landslides, aiming to restore major routes before the Dashain festival. Key corridors in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, and Gorkha are prioritized, though some roads remain blocked or restricted.
The Government of Nepal is racing to reopen major highways damaged by floods and landslides before the Dashain festival, with road repair work accelerated across several districts. The Department of Roads has stated that key highways will be brought back into operation before the festival begins.
Shubharaj Neupane, spokesperson for the Department of Roads, said repairs are underway in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Chitwan, and Gorkha. Transport is expected to reach Dhunche in Rasuwa within the next four to five days, while the road toward Mustang is also expected to reopen soon.
Neupane acknowledged that road conditions may remain difficult in some places, but emphasized that people should not be prevented from travelling home or transporting food and other essential goods.
According to the latest Nepal Police update, major roads in Rasuwa remain blocked due to the Bhotekoshi flood on September 10. The Beni-Jomsom road in Myagdi was also fully blocked by a landslide on September 26.
Meanwhile, the Kaligandaki Corridor in Nawalparasi East and the Besisahar-Khangsar road in Manang have resumed one-way traffic, although some restrictions remain in place.
