Nepal Exports Electricity Worth Rs 5.92 Billion to India in Ashoj
Nepal Electricity Authority exported electricity worth over Rs 5.92 billion to India in the month of Ashoj, despite flood-related disruptions to hydropower production. The government also resumed 40 MW power exports to Bangladesh via the Indian transmission line after a brief suspension caused by the August 26 glacial disaster.
Kathmandu — The Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) exported electricity worth over Rs 5.92 billion to India during the month of Ashoj (mid-September to mid-October), according to official figures.
Although the August 26 flood disaster had affected hydropower production and caused a brief disruption in power exports, transaction volumes rebounded in Ashoj. Dirghayu Kumar Shrestha, Executive Director at NEA, confirmed that the transaction amount grew during the month despite the earlier supply disturbances. Nearly two-thirds of the total cross-border supply was made under bilateral agreements.
NEA supplied over 630 units of electricity to India last month, generating Rs 5.92 billion in revenue.
In a related development, the government resumed exporting 40 MW of power to Bangladesh through the Indian transmission line last Friday. The export had been disrupted by the Bhotekoshi flash flood on August 26, which damaged the Trishuli and Chilime hydropower plants—both of which had been permitted to supply power to Bangladesh.
