Kathmandu — The Government of Nepal has announced five major decisions taken during today's Cabinet meeting, according to Government Spokesperson and Minister for Education, Science, and Technology, Sasmit Pokharel.
1. Norwegian Grant for Clean Energy
The Cabinet approved a grant assistance of approximately NPR 100 million from the Norwegian government to promote clean energy transformation across municipalities. This funding is expected to support local-level renewable energy initiatives.
2. Nepal Engineering Service Amendment
The government approved the second amendment rules (2026) regarding the formation, group divisions, and appointments for the Nepal Engineering Service.
3. Alternative Development Finance Regulations
The Cabinet approved the Alternative Development Finance Mobilization Regulations (2026), a move aimed at broadening financing options for development projects.
4. Gen Z Movement Case Review
The report submitted by an investigation committee led by former judge Baburam Regmi was forwarded to the Ministry of Home Affairs for implementation. The committee was tasked with reviewing whether criminal cases filed in connection with the Gen Z movement could be withdrawn.
5. Senior Bureaucratic Promotion
Joint Secretary Padma Kumar Mainali was promoted to the position of Secretary under the Nepal Engineering Service grouping and posted to the Ministry of Infrastructure Development.
