NCHL and GIZ Sign Agreement to Digitize Public Transport Payments in Nepal
Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) and GIZ's SET4NPL project have signed an agreement to integrate digital payment solutions into Nepal's public transportation sector. The partnership will explore NEPALPAY QR, NEPALPAY Card, and connectIPS for transport ticketing, fare collection, and open-loop payment systems.
Nepal Clearing House Limited (NCHL) and GIZ's Sustainable Electric Transport for Nepal (SET4NPL) project have signed an agreement aimed at promoting digital payments across Nepal's public transportation and mobility sector.
The agreement was signed by Diego Senior, Programme Manager of GIZ-SET4NPL, and Neelesh Man Singh Pradhan, CEO of NCHL.
Under the partnership, NEPALPAY QR, NEPALPAY Card, and connectIPS will be explored for integration with transport ticketing systems, mobility apps, and digital payment devices. The initiative will also support open-loop ticketing, enabling passengers to make interoperable digital payments through NCHL's payment platforms.
The collaboration will cover:
- Digital ticketing
- Fare collection
- Transaction processing and settlement
- Expansion of digital payment options across public transport and emerging mobility services
NCHL will provide APIs, technical documentation, and technical support for integration, testing, and deployment. Meanwhile, GIZ-SET4NPL will facilitate the integration of NCHL's payment solutions with relevant transport systems and devices under the project.
The SET4NPL project, implemented by GIZ, supports Nepal's electric mobility and public transport sector, including the deployment of more than 3,500 electric mini- and micro-buses. The project also covers e-ticketing, public charging infrastructure, fleet management software, and open-loop ticketing systems.
