Millions swindled with promises of foreign employment, three arrested
Three individuals have been arrested for allegedly swindling millions by promising foreign employment. The suspects collected Rs 1 million, Rs 700,000, and Rs 100,000 from victims by promising to send them to Japan, Cambodia, and the UAE, respectively, before disappearing.
Kathmandu — Police have arrested three individuals for allegedly swindling money by promising to send people to various countries for foreign employment.
The arrested have been identified as 35-year-old Nagendra Bhetwal of Terhathum, 44-year-old Samundra Bahadur Thapa of Bardiya, and 44-year-old Kumar Khatiwada of Panchthar.
According to police, they lured victims with the promise of attractive salaries and collected large sums by claiming to send them to the respective countries. However, after taking the money, they neither sent the victims abroad nor remained in contact, prompting the victims to file complaints.
- Bhetwal allegedly swindled Rs 1 million from one person by promising to send him to Japan.
- Thapa allegedly swindled Rs 700,000 from one person by promising to send him to Cambodia.
- Khatiwada allegedly swindled Rs 100,000 from one person by promising to send him to the UAE.
Police said they were arrested based on the complaints filed by the victims.
All three have now been sent to the Department of Foreign Employment for further investigation and necessary legal action.
