Kathmandu — In the third round of the Carabao Cup, Manchester United squandered a two-goal lead and suffered a 3–2 defeat to Brighton. In the match played on Wednesday night at their home ground Old Trafford, United scored twice early on, but Brighton produced an excellent comeback in the second half to secure a place in the last 16.
With this defeat, United have now suffered a disappointing result at the third round for the third consecutive time in a domestic cup competition. In last season's Carabao Cup, United were defeated by fourth-tier Grimsby Town, and they also lost to Brighton in the FA Cup.
