LPG gas price in Kathmandu returns to previous rate, fixed at Rs 2,060 per cylinder
After an alternative track opened on the Prithvi Highway, the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association has reverted the price of LPG gas in the Kathmandu Valley to the previous rate of Rs 2,060 per cylinder. The additional transportation fare imposed earlier due to road blockage from floods has been removed.
Kathmandu — The Nepal LP Gas Industry Association has directed entrepreneurs to sell and distribute LPG gas in the Kathmandu Valley at the previous rate of Rs 2,060 per cylinder. After an alternative track opened on the Prithvi Highway, allowing gas bullets to enter Kathmandu directly, the association removed the additional transportation fare and restored the original price.
On August 30 (Bhadra 14), the Prithvi Highway was disrupted after a massive flood in the Trishuli River at the Krishnabhir area eroded the road. To ease gas supply in the Valley amid the road obstruction, entrepreneurs were refilling cylinders from plants in Makwanpur, Parsa, Bara, Chitwan, Nawalparasi, and Dhanusha and transporting gas to the Valley via trucks on alternative routes.
As transportation costs increased due to the longer alternative route, the association issued a statement on September 3 (Bhadra 18), requesting sales at a maximum of Rs 2,165.38 per cylinder, adding Rs 105.38 to the Nepal Oil Corporation-set price of Rs 2,060.
However, the association has stated that with the alternative track now open on the obstructed road section and transportation resumed, gas bullets are entering the Valley directly, eliminating the compulsion to bring gas via alternative routes.
