Labour Department Facilitates Over Rs 28.3 Million in Wage Payments
The Department of Labour and Occupational Safety and labour offices have facilitated wage payments totaling Rs 28,358,202 up to the end of Bhadra in fiscal year 2083/84. In Bhadra alone, withheld wages amounting to Rs 14,312,387 were paid.
Kathmandu – The Department of Labour and Occupational Safety under the Ministry of Youth, Labour and Employment, along with labour offices, has facilitated wage payments totaling Rs 28,358,202 up to the end of Bhadra in fiscal year 2083/84.
In the month of Bhadra, withheld wages amounting to Rs 14,312,387 were paid through complaints registered, mediation, and departmental directives. Similarly, Rs 5,557,735 was settled through mutual agreement between workers and establishments in Bhadra.
During the review period, 148 individual and 3 collective claims were filed, while 63 labour disputes were resolved.
To ensure compliance with labour laws, the department and its subordinate labour offices conducted 248 labour inspections and 244 child labour inspections of establishments in Bhadra. By the end of Bhadra, a total of 619 establishment inspections and 595 child labour inspections had been completed. In the same period, 386 labour audit reports were received.
In Bhadra, 3 new trade unions at the establishment level were registered and 18 were renewed. Additionally, 5 new licences were issued and 47 renewed for labour supply companies.
One industrial accident was registered in the previous month. The department stated that it is providing services to service seekers in a dignified manner on a 'first come, first served' basis.
