Kathmandu. The Nepal Insurance Authority has demanded a written response from Pravin Raman Parajuli, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Nepal Life Insurance, for publishing misleading statistics regarding insurance claims.
The Authority issued a letter on Wednesday instructing Parajuli to submit a response within three days. CEO Parajuli is accused of broadcasting false statistics, including a claim of 122 trillion rupees paid in insurance claims, through the company's official social media (Facebook and TikTok).
According to sources affiliated with the Authority, the Authority took note and demanded a response after Insurance News published a news report that the misleading information had confused the general public. Following a fact-check by Insurance News, Nepal Life removed the video from TikTok.
If the response received within the stipulated time is not satisfactory, the Authority has stated that further action will be initiated as per the provisions of the Insurance Act 2079.
