Inflation Rises to 5.96 Percent in Shrawan, Food Prices Surge
According to the latest report from Nepal Rastra Bank, annual point-to-point consumer inflation reached 5.96 percent in the month of Shrawan, compared to just 1.68 percent in the same month last year. Inflation in the food and beverage group stood at 6.77 percent, while the non-food and services group recorded 5.52 percent.
Kathmandu. According to the economic and financial situation report for the month of Shrawan published by Nepal Rastra Bank, prices have risen in the country. In the review month, annual point-to-point consumer inflation reached 5.96 percent, compared to only 1.68 percent in the same month last year.
On a group-wise basis, inflation in the food and beverage group stood at 6.77 percent, while inflation in the non-food and services group was 5.52 percent. In the same period last year, inflation in the food and beverage group was negative 2.28 percent, while inflation in the non-food and services group was 3.95 percent.
Under the food and beverage group, the annual point-to-point consumer price index for various sub-groups increased as follows:
- Ghee and oil: 15.62 percent
- Fruits: 15.39 percent
- Fish and meat: 8.65 percent
- Vegetables: 6.90 percent
- Spices: 4.80 percent
Similarly, under the non-food and services group, the annual point-to-point consumer price index for transportation rose by 13.17 percent, alcoholic beverages by 7.20 percent, clothing and footwear by 5.52 percent, and tobacco products by 4.97 percent.
