India's Election Commission Grants New Names and Symbols to Two Factions of Trinamool Congress
India's Election Commission has given separate new names and election symbols to the two factions of the All India Trinamool Congress. The faction led by Mamata Banerjee has been named 'Mamata All India Trinamool Congress' with the 'Football Player' symbol, while the faction led by Arup Roy has been named 'Democratic Trinamool Congress' with the 'Plough' symbol.
Kathmandu — India's Election Commission has granted separate new names and election symbols to the two factions of the All India Trinamool Congress. This decision is expected to have a significant impact on the politics of West Bengal.
According to the Election Commission's decision, the faction led by Mamata Banerjee will now be named 'Mamata All India Trinamool Congress'. The faction has been allotted the 'Football Player' election symbol.
Similarly, the faction led by Arup Roy has been named 'Democratic Trinamool Congress'. The party will receive the 'Plough' election symbol.
Furthermore, the Election Commission has granted both factions the status of recognized political parties in West Bengal, Meghalaya, and Tripura.
Earlier, through an interim order issued on Thursday, the Commission had barred both factions from using the name All India Trinamool Congress and its old election symbol in the by-elections to be held in the Nandigram and Rejinagar assembly constituencies in West Bengal.
