Government websites down for four days, online services affected
The government has temporarily shut down official websites after a security risk was detected in PHP coding. With no sign of restoration after four days, users of online services including passport, transport, and revenue are affected.
Kathmandu — Government websites have been down for four days after a security risk was detected in the PHP coding system. The government itself temporarily shut down the websites citing cyber security concerns.
However, four days have passed since the websites were shut down, with no indication of them reopening. This has affected service seekers who rely on online services.
As soon as the PHP security risk emerged, various banks and financial institutions, including Nepal Rastra Bank, had also temporarily closed their websites and online services. But most banks and financial institutions have resolved the issue and resumed services.
Even as private company websites are back in operation, government websites remain closed. This has put service seekers dependent on government online services in hardship.
In particular, the websites of the Department of Passports, Department of Transport Management, VCTS system of the Revenue Investigation Department, Nepal Rastra Bank, Department of Land Management and Archives, and Kalimati Vegetable Market remain inaccessible, causing difficulties for service seekers.
