Government to Build New City for Flood Victims, Not Resettle Them
Minister for Physical Infrastructure Sunil Lamsal has announced the government's plan to build a new city for those affected by the Bhote Koshi flood. He stated that resettling them in the same area is impossible and that a new city with industries, hospitals, and schools will be constructed.
Kathmandu — The government will build a new city for those affected by the Bhote Koshi flood. Minister for Physical Infrastructure Sunil Lamsal, speaking at a meeting of the Development Committee, said that a new city would be built for the flood victims.
Stating that it is impossible to resettle the affected area, Minister Lamsal said the government has moved ahead with the concept of building a new city. According to him, the government has no plan to return the flood victims to their original place.
"Resettling in the same place is not possible. Therefore, the government is planning to build a new city that includes facilities such as industries, hospitals, and schools," Minister Lamsal said.
Likewise, he said the Bhote Koshi flood has taught a lesson that local governments must also be made capable of fighting disasters.
