Government Announces Electricity Relief for Flood-Affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading

Kathmandu — The government has announced immediate relief in electricity services for families and businesses affected by floods in Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading.

Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Biraj Bhakta Shrestha said the relief is aimed at giving affected citizens a sense of state support during disasters. He stated that, in the spirit of "Our support to neighbors," necessary decisions have been advanced to use fees paid by other customers to fund relief for affected families. According to Minister Shrestha, the meeting of the Nepal Electricity Authority Board of Directors decided not to charge minimum electricity billing from Bhadra for customers damaged by the flood in the Bhote Koshi River. Additionally, the electricity meters of customers with damaged homes, businesses, and industries will be removed from records.

Minister Shrestha's secretariat said that if affected customers whose meters have been removed from records request new meters to reconnect, the Authority will provide them free of charge.

The Authority management has been instructed to study providing further concessions or discounts on electricity tariffs for customers in flood-affected areas. As electricity services are being restored in 15 municipalities affected by the floods, the management has been asked to study and propose how much concession or discount can be given to affected customers there.

Based on that study, the Authority is preparing to finalize additional concessions and discounts on electricity tariffs this week. Facilitation has been arranged to relieve citizens whose homes, industries, businesses, and other structures were damaged along with electricity infrastructure from the immediate financial burden related to electricity services.
