Gas Sellers Federation Urges Nepal Oil Corporation to Halt Direct Retail Sales by Bottling Plants
The Gas Sellers Federation Nepal has submitted a memorandum to Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), demanding an immediate halt to direct retail sales of LP gas by bottling plants. The federation expressed strong objections over regulatory inaction while industries overcharge consumers NPR 2,500 to NPR 2,700 per new cylinder.
Submitting a formal memorandum to Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC), the Gas Sellers Federation Nepal has strongly demanded an immediate end to direct retail sales of LP gas by bottling industries. The federation highlighted that direct factory sales are creating market disruptions and urged NOC to strictly route all distribution through authorized dealers.
According to the federation, uncontrolled direct retail by industries has led to an over-flooding of cylinders in the market, paradoxically worsening artificial shortages. Traders expressed frustration over the silence of regulatory bodies while ordinary consumers continue to be exploited.
The key demands and concerns raised by the federation include:
- Halt Direct Factory Retail: Immediately stop direct retail sales from LP gas bottling plants and streamline distribution solely through official dealers.
- Curb Consumer Exploitation: Take urgent action against bottling plants charging inflated rates of NPR 2,500 to NPR 2,700 per new cylinder, condemning the silence of NOC and the government.
- Accountability of Regulators: Question the dubious operational role and inaction of industrialists, NOC, and relevant government authorities regarding consumer welfare violations.
