eSewa's Chief Executive Officer Jagadish Khadka has stepped down. During his tenure, eSewa's system crashed 372 times, IT staff attrition increased, and institutional governance declined, according to allegations. Niraj Sharma has been appointed as the new CEO.
Kathmandu — Jagadish Khadka, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of digital payment service provider eSewa, has stepped down. His tenure ended after eSewa appointed Niraj Sharma as the new CEO.
Appointed as eSewa's CEO on October 12, 2022 (Ashoj 12, 2079 BS), Khadka completed his full term, but his exit was not a happy one. During his tenure, eSewa's system frequently crashed, with services disrupted a total of 372 times. However, eSewa's service quality did not improve.
During Khadka's tenure, many IT employees working at eSewa quit their jobs. According to staff members, eSewa's institutional governance also declined under Khadka's leadership. A 'special inspection' conducted by Nepal Rastra Bank on eSewa and other digital wallets some time ago had also found numerous irregularities in eSewa.
Similarly, during Khadka's tenure, eSewa's image among customers deteriorated badly. eSewa employees say that due to eSewa's poor service, millions of users shifted to other wallets.
Ultimately, as eSewa did not improve, the Board of Directors decided not to reappoint Khadka as CEO and appointed Niraj Sharma as the new CEO.
When attempts were made to contact Khadka for his comments while preparing this news, he did not respond.
