Driving License Printing Begins via New System: Rollout Underway in Madhesh and Lumbini Provinces
The Department of Transport Management has officially commenced driving license printing using the new electronic system launched on Shrawan 1. This initiative aims to clear years of printing backlogs and streamline distribution. Madhesh and Lumbini provinces have led the initial implementation phase.
The government has initiated driving license printing through its new Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System, which came into effect on Shrawan 1. The Department of Transport Management implemented this updated technology to permanently address heavy service seeker pressure and long-standing license printing backlogs.
Under the new workflow, once applicant details are entered into the system, the data transfers directly to Security Printing. Once printed, the licenses are dispatched via the postal service directly to the respective Transport Management Service Offices for final distribution.
Key features and current progress of the new system include:
- Streamlined Service: Both new license applications and renewal processes will now be faster and more efficient.
- Madhesh Province Takes the Lead: In the first phase, 3,081 driving licenses have been printed for Madhesh Province and dispatched to relevant offices for distribution.
- Expansion to Lumbini Province: Lumbini Province also initiated license printing using the new system on Friday.
- Provincial Autonomy: Provincial governments are now empowered to enter direct agreements with Security Printing to print smart licenses under their own management.
