Death of 'Ronaldo' elephant, father of 38 calves, in Chitwan National Park
A wild male elephant named 'Ronaldo', who roamed around the elephant breeding center of Chitwan National Park, was found dead this morning. Preliminary estimates suggest the elephant, father of 38 calves, died from electrocution.
Chitwan — A wild male elephant named 'Ronaldo', who roamed around the elephant breeding center of Chitwan National Park, was found dead this morning.
According to Avinas Thapamagar, information officer at the park, Ronaldo was found dead in the Kumal Lake area near 20 Hazzari Lake in the buffer zone of Chitwan.
Thapamagar said an investigation is underway into the elephant's death. Ronaldo was first spotted in the park 24 years ago.
Female elephants at the breeding center had been conceiving through Ronaldo. According to the park, Ronaldo had fathered 38 calves.
Preliminary estimates suggest that an electric pole was found knocked down, and the elephant may have died from electrocution.
