Congress Convention: Ward conventions across the country today and tomorrow, leadership to be elected in 6,743 wards
Under the Nepali Congress's 15th General Convention, ward conventions are being held today and tomorrow in 6,743 wards across the country. The ward conventions will form ward committees and elect regional representatives, who will in turn choose convention representatives for the central convention. The Congress election committee said that except for Rasuwa and Constituency No. 1 in Nuwakot, which were affected by the Bhote Koshi flood, conventions will conclude elsewhere today and tomorrow.
Kathmandu — Under the 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress, ward conventions are being held across the country today (Saturday) and tomorrow (Sunday). According to the party's central election committee, the ward conventions will form ward committees and elect regional representatives. Those regional representatives will elect convention representatives through the constituency conventions, and the convention representatives will elect the Congress's central leadership through the central convention.
The Congress is holding conventions in 6,743 wards nationwide, including:
- 3,215 wards in 460 rural municipalities
- 3,120 wards in 276 municipalities
- 234 wards in 11 sub-metropolitan cities
- 174 wards in 6 metropolitan cities
As per the party statute, a total of 85,434 people will be elected to ward committees. According to the central election committee, this includes 33,715 office-bearers and 51,719 members.
According to the ward-level structure:
- In rural municipality wards, with five office-bearers and seven members, 12 people per ward will be elected, totaling 38,580.
- In the 3,120 wards of municipalities, with five office-bearers and eight members, 13 people per ward will be elected, totaling 40,560.
- In the 234 sub-metropolitan city wards, with five office-bearers and 10 members, 3,510 people will be elected.
- In the 174 metropolitan city wards, with five office-bearers and 11 members, 2,784 people will be elected.
The number of regional representatives elected from the ward conventions will be determined based on the party's active membership count. According to the Congress, between 23 and 75 regional representatives will be elected from each ward.
Meanwhile, the Congress election committee said that except for Rasuwa and Constituency No. 1 in Nuwakot, which were affected by the Bhote Koshi flood, ward conventions will conclude elsewhere today and tomorrow. In flood-affected areas, conventions will be held after assessing the local situation and in coordination with party workers, it was said.
