Central Bank's Total Assets Exceed NPR 40.44 Trillion, Foreign Currency Share Largest
Nepal Rastra Bank's total assets reached NPR 40.44 trillion 7 billion as of mid-September 2024 (Bhadra end, 2083 BS), a significant increase from the end of the previous fiscal year. Foreign currency assets constitute the largest share, amounting to NPR 38.99 trillion 78 billion.
Kathmandu — Nepal Rastra Bank's total assets have exceeded NPR 40 trillion 44 billion 7 million. According to the interim balance sheet published by the central bank for the period ending mid-September 2024 (Bhadra end, 2083 BS), this increase has been recorded.
Previously, at the end of the last fiscal year, the central bank's total assets stood at NPR 38 trillion 74 billion 98 million.
According to the central bank's data, foreign currency assets make up the largest share of total assets. By mid-September, foreign currency assets at the central bank reached NPR 38 trillion 99 billion 78 million.
The composition of foreign currency assets is as follows:
- Investment in foreign securities: NPR 27 trillion 43 billion 33 million
- Fixed deposits in foreign banks: NPR 6 trillion 39 billion 74 million
- Investment in gold certificates: NPR 2 trillion 53 billion 97 million
- Cash and bank balances: NPR 2 trillion 44 billion 30 million
- IMF-related assets: NPR 18 billion 44 million
As of mid-September, the central bank's local currency assets stood at NPR 1 trillion 44 billion 29 million. This mainly includes gold and silver assets worth NPR 91 billion 67 million, investment in government bonds of NPR 11 billion 64 million, and investment in debentures and fixed deposits of NPR 12 billion 40 million.
On the liabilities side, foreign currency liabilities amounted to NPR 52 billion 34 million, while local currency liabilities reached NPR 28 trillion 76 billion 52 million.
