Budhi Gandaki Flood: Massive Damage in Gorkha, Dozens of Houses and Bridges Swept Away
A sudden flood in the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha has caused massive damage, sweeping away dozens of houses, suspension and concrete bridges, and an under-construction hydropower project. Chumanubri, Dharche, and Arughat rural municipalities are affected, while 18 employees of Time Energy managed to escape to safety.
Kathmandu. A sudden flood in the Budhi Gandaki River in Gorkha has caused massive damage. The flood swept away dozens of houses and bridges, severely affecting local settlements.
According to preliminary reports, the old suspension bridge connecting Chumanubri Rural Municipality–3, Nyakchet to Sirdibas was swept away. In Sirdibas of the same ward, a thatched house belonging to Ram Bahadur Gurung was washed away, while another house was inundated.
The suspension bridge connecting Dharche Rural Municipality–5, Machhikhola to Kerauja was swept away. In the lower settlement of Machhikhola, 5–7 houses and 5–7 huts were inundated. Similarly, 20–22 houses in Dharche–3, Salleri are at risk due to the flood.
The iron concrete bridge at Soti, connecting Arughat Rural Municipality–2 and 3, was swept away. The under-construction Sahaj Urja Power House in Salleri, Chumanubri, and 7–8 houses nearby were swept away.
At Arughat–9, Naya Pul, the concrete bridge connecting Arughat to Dhading had three sections, of which one section on the Gorkha side was swept away, and the road is completely blocked.
Likewise, the flood caused massive damage to Time Energy in Salleri. However, 18 employees working there managed to escape and save their lives.
