Banks extend NPR 166 billion in margin loans, which range gets how much?

Kathmandu. As of Shrawan of the current fiscal year 2083/84, margin loans extended by banks increased by 15.15 percent. According to data published by Nepal Rastra Bank, banks extended NPR 166.42 billion in margin loans during the review period. In the same period of the previous fiscal year 2082/83, such loans amounted to NPR 144.53 billion.
Looking at the range-wise breakdown, the largest share is in the above NPR 10 million range. During the review period, margin loans in this range reached NPR 119.70 billion, which is 17.58 percent higher than NPR 101.80 billion in the previous year.
The details of other loan ranges are as follows:
- Above NPR 5 million up to NPR 10 million: NPR 18.99 billion (previous year NPR 16.91 billion, growth 12.28 percent)
- NPR 2.5 million to NPR 5 million: NPR 18.82 billion (previous year NPR 17.08 billion, growth 10.34 percent)
- Up to NPR 2.5 million: NPR 8.90 billion (previous year NPR 8.72 billion, growth 2.05 percent)
Overall, demand for larger-sized margin loans appears to be rising at a higher rate, indicating an increased risk-taking tendency among investors.
