Authority's interaction with Koshi journalists concludes to expand insurance awareness
In an interaction program organized by the Nepal Insurance Authority Koshi Province in Biratnagar, journalists discussed the problems and solutions in the insurance sector. The Authority emphasized factual and balanced reporting on insurance.
Kathmandu – An interaction program on insurance with journalists active in Koshi Province, organized by the Nepal Insurance Authority Koshi Province, concluded on Wednesday in Biratnagar. The Authority's Koshi Province office held this interaction with journalists to understand the problems in the insurance sector and seek solutions.
During the program, Assistant Director Sachin Rai of the Nepal Insurance Authority gave a presentation on the introduction of the Nepal Insurance Authority, its main areas of work, types of insurance, market conditions, efforts made for insurance promotion, and the Authority's expectations from journalists.
Rajendra Maharjan, Head of the Authority's Koshi Province, urged journalists to bring factual, official, balanced, and public-interest-oriented insurance activities to the general public. He stated that journalists have an important role in delivering correct and reliable information about insurance to the general public.
He held the view that while preparing news, facts should be verified from official sources, the source and period of data should be clearly mentioned, and claims, allegations, reactions, and actual facts should be presented separately. He informed that the Authority, as the regulatory body of insurance companies, is working with attention to the interests of the insured.
He said that when going to receive insurance claim payments after completing all necessary documents, one should not have to face hassle, and if there are any problems, the Authority is ready to resolve them. He also informed that the Authority has been conducting various programs to solve problems in the insurance sector.
Participants emphasized that journalists doing investigative journalism on insurance should be rewarded and that public awareness information on insurance should be disseminated to the necessary extent.
Journalists participating in the program informed about the problems seen in the life insurance and non-life insurance sectors and suggested solutions. On that occasion, Bharat Khadka, President of the Nepal Journalists Association Koshi Province, pointed out the need to spread more awareness on insurance issues and expressed the view that the communication sector is ready to provide support and cooperation for that.
At the program, Kumod Adhikari, Vice President of the Nepal Journalists Association Koshi Province, General Secretary Hima Chemjong, and representatives of the Nepal Insurance Authority expressed their views on expanding insurance access and its effectiveness. The program was conducted by Assistant First Milan Pokharel of the Authority.
