Airfares soar ahead of Dashain, flying to Delhi cheaper than Dhangadhi
As Dashain approaches, domestic airfares have increased abnormally. The one-way Kathmandu–Dhangadhi fare has reached NPR 22,180, while the Kathmandu–Delhi fare for the same period is only NPR 15,900. This highlights the paradox of domestic flights being more expensive than international ones.
Kathmandu — As Dashain approaches, airline companies have abnormally increased domestic airfares. Citing excessive passenger pressure as a pretext, they have sharply raised fares.
This year, ahead of Dashain, the one-way fare from Kathmandu to Dhangadhi has been set at NPR 22,180. However, during the same period, the airfare from Kathmandu to Delhi is only NPR 15,900.
With domestic flights becoming more expensive than international ones, passengers have expressed widespread anger. Many on social media are mocking the situation by sharing a video of Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) during the election campaign in Dhangadhi, where he said, 'Sudur ab dur nai, jhikkai-jhikkai maya timlai' (The Far West is no longer far, I love you so much).
