Agreement between Council and MIT Group Foundation for Protection of Flood-Affected Children
A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the National Child Rights Council and MIT Group Foundation Company to protect children who lost their parents or went missing in the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli floods. The agreement aims to support family care, education, and long-term protection.
Kathmandu. A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the National Child Rights Council and MIT Group Foundation Company, chaired by Shesh Ghale, to secure the childhood and future of children who lost their parents, went missing, or require special protection due to the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli floods.
The agreement between the Council, under the Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security, and the company aims to support family care, education, and long-term protection of children affected by the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli floods. The memorandum was signed by Council Member-Secretary Durga Prasad Chalise and company Chairman Shesh Ghale.
Priority has been given to children under 18 years who have lost one or both parents, are missing, or are economically and socially at risk. Support will be provided for children to grow up in a safe family environment. Care through family and relatives will be prioritized, while institutional care will be considered a last resort.
An individual child education and welfare plan will be prepared after assessing each child's needs. Based on that plan, the following support will be provided:
- Education and educational materials
- Health and insurance
- Nutrition
- Livelihood
- Transportation
- Psychosocial support
The agreement states that necessary support will be provided to continue children's studies up to grade 12 according to approved plans.
The maximum budget to be provided by the company during the project period has been set at NPR 57 crore 85 lakh. This amount is not a fixed grant to be provided automatically but will be determined and allocated based on verified needs and approved individual plans. Arrangements will be made to avoid duplication of support, taking into account government scholarships and other assistance.
Identification and verification of beneficiaries will be done through the Council with facilitation from local levels. The Council will play a coordinating, facilitating, and child protection role, while MIT Group Foundation Company will provide financial and necessary technical support. Both parties will regularly monitor and review the educational progress, health, protection, and utilization of support for the children.
The agreement will remain in effect for a maximum of 18 years from the date of signing and can be renewed as needed with the consent of both parties. The collaboration prioritizes the best interests of the child, dignity, protection, confidentiality, and transparency and accountability of support.
