14 Internet Service Providers Including WorldLink Fined
The Nepal Telecommunications Authority has fined 14 internet service provider companies **NPR 50,000 each** for operating internet services against the terms of their licenses. The Authority has also directed them to immediately stop unapproved packages and tariffs, and to compensate customers for any losses incurred.
Kathmandu. The Nepal Telecommunications Authority has fined 14 internet service provider companies NPR 50,000 each for operating internet services against the terms of their licenses.
Based on the Authority's inspection and investigation report, the action was taken under Section 47(1) of the Telecommunications Act, 2053.
Likewise, if any customer has suffered losses due to the service providers, the Authority has directed them to pay compensation or damages as demanded, and to immediately stop all internet service packages and tariffs operated without the Authority's approval.
According to Authority spokesperson Min Prasad Aryal, although all licensed telecommunications service providers are required to obtain approval from the Authority for any package or tariff before implementing it under the Telecommunications Act, 2053, action had to be taken because they acted arbitrarily. The Authority has directed them not to operate any package or tariff without approval, not to stop packages, and to fully comply with the prevailing laws, rules, and license conditions.
